Keeping your Go Berkey clean is very important.
If you are using your system daily, you should clean the lower chamber at least once a month with soap and water. Whenever you notice that the filtration rate is getting slow, it is an indication that the Black Berkey elements need to be cleaned.
If your system is for occasional or emergency use, you should thoroughly clean the stainless steel housing once you are finished using it and storing it. Make sure the system is completely dry before storing it. The Black Berkey elements should also be dried completely before being stored. We offer a tool to assist in both priming and purging. This tool is called a Black Berkey Primer™. The benefit of purging the Black Berkey™ Purification Elements is that they are dried very quickly and cleaned at the same time. Another option for drying your elements is to leave them on a window sill for one to three days and allow them to air dry. The key is to ensure they are bone-dry before storing them, to prevent any bacterial growth. If over time you notice that the filtration rate is getting slow, it is an indication that the Black Berkey elements need to be cleaned.
